Principal Ruth Rodriguez shared the following:

"Here are some celebrations at the School of Creativity and Innovation:
Our teachers have successfully commenced zoom classes, have active Google classrooms, and have used class dojo to create student work portfolios. We currently have 92% of our students on. We are super excited:

  • Ms. Cao records her zoom read alouds for her Pre K students and then posts the videos on Class Dojo for those kids who missed the live stream.
  • Ms. Ou keeps her Zoom channel chat open so that students can reach out as they are working on tasks once the live stream is over.
  • Ms. Gukassey pre records lessons for students who are not able to get on the video chat yet and emails them directly.
  • All teachers are reading aloud to students daily and live, reaching out and intentionally supporting. They each create a daily learning flows to upload to Google Classroom. These flows support families as they navigate google classroom.

Our social worker, Griselda Abreu, guidance counselor, Noreen McLaughlin, and secretary, Rita Kwan, have worked diligently to reach out to families to provide one on one technical support.
Our school safety agent, Katherine Sanabria, has been instrumental in communicating any parent concerns as they stop by for meals. This has allowed us to support with the access and social needs they have.
Our school custodial staff, Sal, Joe, Kalvan, have all taken the time to answer questions for our families or inform us when unsure.  Will send more as they come in. We can do this work! Collaboration is key."

I.A. Principal Stephanie Parsons shared that all her paras are doing amazing work:

"All our paras have spreadsheets for recording their work with children, which are functioning as attendance for them. They are all filling them out with varying amounts of detail, but there are also others really putting such care into their work. One of these two, Cindy Jacobs, organized and led para PD on Monday to support paras with using technology, contacting families, brainstorming ways to support their students, and documenting it in the spreadsheets. The other one, Miriam Infortunio-Seda, is a Level I teaching assistant and has no 1-1 student. She has been supporting teachers and guidance counselors as well as meeting students for Reading Rescue. They're amazing."

Principal Amanda Bueno shared:

"Lorraine Benedit, is MS 136's amazing new Parent Coordinator.  Ms. Benedit hosted a virtual info session for families on Sunday, March 22. Parents logged on with their children and got all of their questions answered in preparation for the first day of online learning. It was MS 136's largest parent turn out this year! And it is all because of her calls, texts, emails and flyers home to families. Congratulations, Ms. Benedit!
